The concept of metamorphosis came to me this spring. After the incredible moisture our area experienced, our environment responded with abundance. Abundance in wild flowers, rushing rivers and creeks, green like our area has never seen. This abundance had been most apparent one day on a run in mid May. On this run, I noticed literally thousands of caterpillars crossing a road that I had been running for ten years. In all those years of running this same path, I had never seen anything like this!

The weeks that followed left me reflecting on this vision of a caterpillar filled road. I couldn’t help but compare this metamorphic destined creature with the transformational process that our world is going through right now. 

The result of this reflection can be found in the “Metamorphosis Journal” I created. This journal has a sterling silver cover featuring a hand drawn and cut silver Moth. The Moth represents the thousands of moths thriving our region now as a result of the caterpillars I saw crossing the road in the spring. 

A sketch journal or any journal for that matter should leave you different than when you opened it. This piece is meant to be an heirloom item that you use over and over again as the cover is removable and easy to transfer to a new and blank notebook.
